The Eden Project

Debbie set us up for the day with a great English breakfast and instructions on a shortcut to the project. We soon arrived at this amazing educational centre and spent the next 5 hours there.

This place began in 1990 by a small group of people who wanted to make a difference and demonstrate regeneration and the art of the possible and was opened to the public in 2001.This 35 acre global garden in a 50m deep crater pit was originally a China clay pit. 83,000 tonnes of soil was made from recycled waste and used here. A huge diversity of plants are seen many of which we use everyday but don't often get to see as in modern medicine. The rain water is harvested draining into the pit and used to irrigate the plants as well as flush the loos. We made our way through all the Biomes refreshing ourselves with a delicious Baobab smoothie in the rainforest biome. By selling the baobab they are supporting the African farmers.

An amazing sculpture of the lady made of mud.
This place teaches us that everything we do needs to be sustainable so the world has a future.
I think we are becoming "Greenies"
We finished our time here with our first Cornish ice cream ......sooo delicious.
From here we traveled on to Charleston a lovely historic port for old sailing ships and where some of Poldark was filmed. While we were here we had an early evening meal and then head back to our B&B.
