Today we spent our time at this amazing university city. We checked into a park and ride carpark which is really the only way to get into this city. Most of the traffic in the very centre is buses or bikes which gives it a nice quiet feel. We then took a hop on hop off bus which was a great way to get the feel of the city and pick up some info through the audio commentary. We also joined a walking tour with 5 others for about one and a half hours which was so worth while when we were limited for time.
One of our hop offs was at Christ Church University here in the photo. The building and architecture in this city is overwhelming even more so than anywhere so far on our travels.
A typical scene of how the centre city looks everywhere you turn.
The centre of Oxford is filled with universities, libraries and chapels, bikes, students and buses along with the shops and bars.
surround the dining room walls.
Part of our walking tour took us into Balliol College founded in 1263 the oldest Oxford College continuously on one site. Their students come to study with world class academics and many world leaders have graduated from this college and other Colleges from around Oxford City.
After a full day in Oxford we drove home following a very picturesque B road which took us through the lovely village of Woodstock where Blenheim Palace sits, the place of Winston Churchills birth. We were too late to take a look through however the gatesman allowed us to look through the main gates where I managed a very distant photo of this beautiful setting.
Sadly this was our last night here in the Cotswolds. We could have done with a couple more days here just as we could have in Cornwall.
